Riyadh squabble cuts Kuwaiti output

Political quarrels are threatening Kuwait’s upstream, with the 300,000 b/d Wafra field in the Neutral Zone (NZ) it operates with Saudi Arabia to shut on 13 May. The two Opec members’ failure to resolve what began as a minor spat could cost Kuwait more than 5pc of its 2.8mn b/d production. Wafra would mark the second shutdown in the NZ after the Saudi-instigated shut-in of the 300,000 b/d Khafji field on 20 October (AGM, 24 October, p7).
