US sanctions Rosneft’s Sechin

The US has imposed sanctions on Russian oil firm Rosneft’s chief executive Igor Sechin, as Washington and its allies raise the pressure on Moscow over Ukraine. The US has frozen any assets Sechin may have in the US, and has barred US persons and companies from engaging in transactions with him. Sechin is the former Russian deputy prime minister and once served as Russian president Vladimir Putin’s chief of staff. Sechin dismissed the US action, quoting French diplomat Charles Maurice de Talleyrand: “All that is excessive is insignificant.”
