The Libyan, Iron and Steel Company is endeavouring by adopting development projects for its mills to satisfy the market requirements, reduce the production cost, improve the companies economies, contribute to building the national economy and enhance its capability to compete more effectively and with more economic output in the world market. To make these goals come true, the company has prepared a techno-econom-ic feasibility study in co-operation with one of the world consultancy companies to bring the production capacity of the mills of the company up to about (3) million tons of liquid steel per year. After implementing this study during 2004, a general development plan has emanated from it, and the company has started with executing some of the major projects of this plan, such as development of the steel mill No.(1), first stage, and development of the chemical treatment line, in addition to executing some projects to diversify its products such as the wire drawing, galvanizing and sheathing mill.
