Preparation of iron oxide catalyst with iron oxide waste from Iron Steel Company

PURPOSE: A method of preparing an iron oxide catalyst used in the synthesis of styrene monomer from ethyl benzene by using iron oxide waste from iron steel company is provided. CONSTITUTION: The method includes the steps of milling 65 to 75 wt.% of iron oxide waste and 25 to 35 wt.% of metal mixtures containing K, Mg, Ca and Ce at 700 rpm for 10 to 30 minutes; mixing above mixture with 10 % of water; extruding the slurry in the form of cylinder, followed by drying at 100 to 110 deg.C for 5 to 10 hrs; and calcining the cylindrical catalyst at 350 for 4 hrs and at 800 deg.C for 4 hrs. The method further comprises the step of adding 0.01 wt.% of diluted nitric acid during the milling process.
