Saudi Aramco to Install CO2 Injection Facilities with a Capacity of 40 Million Cu Ft/Day at the Super-Giant Ghawar Field

Saudi Aramco intends to start injecting carbon dioxide (CO2) into the super-giant Ghawar oil field in 2012, according to Mr. Muhammed al-Sabban, the head of the Saudi delegation to the United Nations negotiations on climate change and an advisor to the Ministry of Petroleum. The Ghawar field produced some 5 million b/d of crude in 2008, accounting for over half the country's total output.
