摘要

EU member states have called for a new impact assessment on the European Commission’s proposal to halve “the use and risk” from pesticides by 2030, EU affairs’ newswire, Euractiv, reports. The proposal is part of the Commission’s Farm to Fork strategy. The Commission launched its strategy in 2020, setting a target to reduce the “overall use and risk” of chemical pesticides by 50% and the use of more hazardous pesticides by the same amount by 2030. That and the Sustainability strategy form part of the Commission’s “Green Deal” to move towards what it views as more sustainable systems to tackle the impact of climate change. In June this year, the Commission proposed legally binding targets with clear objectives and enforceable rules to reduce by 50% the use and risk of chemical pesticides and the use of more hazardous pesticides by the end of the decade.
