Suez Canal Receipts Soared to a Record US3.09 Billion in 2004

Suez Canal receipts increased by US1,263 million to US3,087 million in 2004 from US1,824 million in 2003,the Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority,Mr.Ahmed Fadhel,has announced.Receipts amounted to US297 million in December,the highest monthly figure during 2004.A total of 16,911 ships passed through the waterway last year,transporting 621 million tons of merchandise,as against 15,667 vessels carrying 550 million tons in 2003.
