Agreement Due to Be Signed with BP for the Development of the Khazan and Makarem Gas Fields

Confronted with the difficulty of sustaining its oil production at the current level and in response to growing domestic demand for natural gas (see following report),the Omani authorities are putting increasing emphasis on natural gas in their overall energy strategy.As well as monetizing the country's natural gas resources through the liquefied natural gas (LNG) export projects of Oman LNG and Qalhat LNG,the government intends to develop known gas fields that are considered to pose major technical problems.As part of this strategy,the Ministry of Oil and Gas could sign an agreement with BP shortly covering the development of the Khazan and Makarem gas fields,which are located not far from the Saih Nihayda field.
