Although the United States Defense Department has made progress towards the restoration of essential services and activities in Iraq,it has not attained the objectives it set itself,according to the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO)in a report published on 15 December.As regards the energy sector in particular,none of the quantified targets laid down had been achieved by October 2006.The greatest disparity between objectives and attainments at that point related to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)production capacity,which was running at an estimated 1,200 tons/day,whereas the objective was 3,000 tons/day by then.
