Qatar: expansion strategy of Qatar iron and steel company to meet the growing demand

Consumption of steel in Qatar saw: a great increase during the past three years. It rose from 350 thousand tons in 2004 up to 640 thousand tons in 2005, It is expected to reach 700 thousand tons in the next years. This has been asserted by Sheikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Thani, President and General Manager of Qatar Iron and: Steel Company (Qasco). Production of Qatar Iron and Steel Company covers about 94 percent of the consumption of the domestic market of reinforcing steel bars. The volume of the company's sales on the domestic market amounted to 604 thousand tons in 2005 against 339 thousand tons in 2004, i.e., up by 78 percent.
