Halliburton Wins a Five-Year Contract for Drilling Operations in the Southern Zone of the Ghawar Field

Saudi Aramco has awarded the U.S. company Halliburton an "integrated turnkey" contract for drilling wells in the southern zone of the super-giant Ghawar field. The contract is for a five-year term, with an option to renew for a further five years, and covers drilling operations into the Uthmaniyah, Haradh, Hawiyah and Shedgum reservoirs. It calls for the supply of drilling rigs and the drilling of horizontal and directed wells, the conduct of well logs during drilling, cementing work, mud engineering, wireline logs, completion, perforation and other well operations, including engineering and the management of all drilling activities. Halliburton indicates that the project is expected to require the mobilization of three or four drilling rigs and involves some 153 to 185 oil production, water injection and appraisal wells.
