Saudi Aramco Due to Award a Five-Year Drilling Contract in November for Wells in the South of the Ghawar Field

Saudi Aramco plans to award an "integrated" contract in November for a drilling campaign in the southern zone of the giant Ghawar oil field, sources close to the Saudi national oil company told Al Watan. The contract is expected to be worth $500 million and will call for the contractor not only to supply drilling rigs and associated equipment but also to conduct the drilling operations and manage the project, reflecting Saudi Aramco's bid to keep costs down. The wells will target the undeveloped Uthmaniyah, Haradh and Hawiyah reservoirs in that part of the Ghawar field.
