European Union Calls on Sudan to Permit the Free Flow of Oil Exports from South Sudan

Relations between the Republic of Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan have broken down completely. Despite various diplomatic pressures, the egregious state of relations between the two countries is having an extremely negative effect on their economies and on South Sudan's oil exports. The consequences of this are very grave for South Sudan, since it is heavily dependent on oil and international aid. Its neighbor to the north is not as badly affected, but it is losing the benefit of the transit rights it receives for the crude from South Sudan that in normal times is transported to Red Sea terminals for export.
