Saudi Aramco Makes Two More Oil Discoveries South-East of the Ghawar Field

Saudi Aramco announced on 16 May that it had discovered two new oilfields south-east of the giant Ghawar field on 26 and 27 April.The Mabrouk-1 well yielded a test flow of 5,600 b/d of heavy,27.4° API crude (Arabian Heavy) and 2 million cu ft/day of associated gas through a 40/64-inch choke and at a wellhead pressure of 1,200 psi.The pay zone is located in the Hadriya reservoir at a depth of 20,300 feet.This was the first well drilled south of Ghawar to have produced hydrocarbons from this reservoir.Mabrouk-1 is located 30 km south-east of the field.
