Agreement for a Joint Venture Involving QPI Has Been Signed for a Petrochemical Complex in Vietnam

Siam Cement Public Company Limited (SCC) has announced that Siam Cement Group (SCG) and its Vietnamese and Qatari partners have signed a joint venture agreement for the development of what will be Vietnam's first petrochemical complex, which is to be located on the island of Long Son. The project will also entail the construction of a port, a wharf, warehousing and a power plant. The associates have thus confirmed their commitment to the project, which is expected to cost $4.5 billion. The final investment decision is due to be taken in 2013. This commitment follows the investment agreement that was signed in January (AOG, 1 Feb., 2012). The complex is scheduled to entefproduction four to five years after the finalization of funding agreements and the start of construction work. SCG will have a 28% equity stake in the project (as against 53% initially) and Thai Plastic and Chemicals an 18% interest. The other main partners are QPI Vietnam and Vinachem.
