Sanctions and Political Unrest Lead to a Reduction in Syrian Oil Exports

On the basis of the preliminary loading program, Syria is due to export some 116,000 barrels/day of crude oil in July instead of the usual volume of 150,000 b/d, according to oil traders contacted by Reuters. Sytrol, the state-owned oil marketing company, confirmed on 28 June that exports of Syrian Heavy were effectively to be cut by 37% in July. Those exports are mainly destined for North-West Europe and the Mediterranean. The planned volume consists of one 80,000-ton cargo of Syrian Light and six cargoes of Syrian Heavy, four of 80,000 tons and two of 35,000 tons.
