CGGVeritas to Carry out Deepwater 2-D Seismic Surveys in Preparation for an International Bid Round in 2010

CGGVeritas is going to carry out two 2-D seismic surveys over Gabon's deep offshore. The high-quality data that are due to be collected are destined to accompany the organization of the country's 10th international exploration bid round, which is scheduled to take place from June to December 2010. The company points out that this will be the first bid round in Gabon since 1999 and that it will be focused on deepwater zones that bear similar characteristics to those that yielded a large number of major discoveries in the Santos basin off Brazil. The structures to be targeted are presalt structures - they are located under salt layers - which poses significant technical problems since these layers tend to distort seismic images.
