Forecasts for hotter weather across the US offer some encouragementto coal markets but a surge in natural gas inventoriescould limit price increases for both fuels in the shorter term.US gas stockpiles last week rose to 2.767 Tcf — 2.7pc abovethe five-year average. Inventories have increased rapidly thisyear on gains in production. Last week's injection of 99 Bcf exceededthe five-year-average increase for the week of 71 Bcf.
