Russian coal transit through Ukrainian ports fell in 2013, amid lower demand for Russian coal in the Azov-Black Sea basin countries and high rail transit tariffs in Ukraine. Russian coal transit through all Ukrainian ports dropped last year by 31.4pc year on year to 3.39mn t, according to port data. At the same time exports through Russian ports rose on the year by 17.2pc to 7.77mn t, mainly because of the deep-water Novorossiysk port in the south which more than tripled its coal throughput, while Yeysk port increased handlings at its facility by 42.5pc.
