African Renewables’ 160,000 t/yr Biocam wood chip plant in Cameroon will begin loading its first 30,000t cargo to Europe at the port of Kribi “imminently”, the firm said. African Renewables owns 51pc of Biocam in a joint venture with Belgian utility Engie, which has signed a threeyear offtake agreement for the plant’s supply on a fob Kribi basis. The first cargo is on track for first-quarter 2017 delivery. Biomass for the plant comes from Singapore-based rubber producer GMG Global’s Hevecam rubber plantation in Cameroon, based on a 10-year offtake agreement with African Renewables signed earlier this year. All wood chip will be Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified.
