EU renewables proposals challenging for biomass

Draft European Commission proposals will pose challenges for the biomass sector and lack much anticipated EU-wide sustainability criteria. The leaked drafts, to be issued officially on 30 November, aim to amend power markets and renewables legislation, but indicate that the commission will not propose an exemption for biomass-fired generation when removing priority grid access. And the commission remains undecided on whether to issue sustainability criteria for biomass.
