Biomass: ARA prices weaken

Wood pellet prices delivered into the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) region fell this week, giving up some of their recent gains as the euro again weakened against the US dollar. The appetite for dollar-denominated supplies remained weak on the prompt and throughout the summer quarters. The spot index dipped $0.19/t lower, to close on Wednesday at $172.59/t. Market participants continued to monitor the impact production delays could have on prices later in the year, but the lack of a firm bid in the market allowed bearish sentiment to creep back in. An offer was reported at close to $170/t – equivalent to ?158/t – but failed to attract even tentative buying interest.
