UK energy firm Eco2 has cancelled its 40MW straw-fired Mendlesham biomass project,amid unfavourable conditions for renewable subsidies. "The closure of the renewables obligation(RO)and uncer-tainty over contracts for difference(CfD)on dedicated bio-mass projects following an overhaul in the electricity market has made projects like the Mendlesham renewable energy project a much less attractive investment,”Eco2 said. The company was contesting a planning inspectorate decision that refused planning permission for its Mendlesham project.A hearing was expected on 19 August,but the com-pany has decided to withdraw its appeal.
