K+N opens logistics unit in Bielefeld

Kuehne + Nagel (K+N) has opened a new state-of-the art distribution centre in Bielefeld, Germany. Situated 150km to the south of Bremen, it is well located for the distribution of German deepsea containerised imports and exports, as well as national and pan-European traffic. The multi-functional facility is situated on a 75,000m~2 plot of land, and features 22,000m~2 of warehousing and handling space, as well as modern office premises. It replaces two smaller warehouses, and will build on the commercial platform created by Bielefeld-based Gebr. Moenkemoeller, which was acquired by the fast-expanding K+N in 2005. At present, this business includes the handling of some 5,000 domestic and international shipments in/out every working day, via 116 loading bays. Commenting at the premises' opening ceremony, Klaus-Michael Kuehne, execu- tive chairman of K+N International, said: 'The centre testifies to the successful merger of two complementary companies under one brand. Our customers benefit from a comprehensive, integrated logistics offering, and efficient management of operational processes.'
