Rare tumour presenting in a newborn infant

Within minutes of delivery, a rapidly expanding dusky firm swelling was observed on the palmar aspect of the left ring finger in an otherwise healthy term male infant (figure 1). Antenatal scans were normal and there was no trauma at delivery. On examination, no other abnormalities were found. The lesion expanded to a maximum size of 7 cm in length and 8.5 cm diameter at 24 h of age. Digital perfusion remained normal. Full blood count and clotting studies were normal. A plain radiograph confirmed a large soft tissue swelling of the finger but no bony abnormality.
