The device has a treatment unit e.g. micro-controller, for delivering a variable control signal (12) to a stimulation unit to control amplitude (14A) and/or frequency (14F) of stimulation applied to newborn infant from the moment the treatment unit detects a variation or an abnormal modification of a heart rate of the newborn infant. The control signal takes two values, where one value controls the stimulation to wake up the infant and other value controls the stimulation without waking up the infant.
