Grain market insight: Kazakhstan sees lowest grain production in past 10 years

The overall production of grain and legumes in Kazakhstan in 2021 is estimated at 16.6 million tonnes (an 18% plunge against the production volume recorded in 2020). Wheat production in 2021 is assessed at 11.8 mmt (a 17% decrease year-on-year). So, the year of 2021 appeared to be the worst year for Kazakhstan in terms of harvest of grain and legumes since 2012. The main reason for the decline is low average grain yield caused by the fact that grain crops had been growing in extremely difficult agro-climatic conditions. So, the average yield for grains and legumes was 10.4 centners per hectare (down 19% compared to the previous season), while wheat yield dropped by 21% to just 9.3 centners per hectare.
