Mugging up on Artemisia lactiflora

Producing panicles of small, milky white flowers in mid to late summer, Artemisia lactiflora is a herbaceous perennial of medium height. It has been used for over a century as a middle or back of the border plant where its erect habit and white flowers make a striking statement. Early introductions of the species had light or bright green leaves with pale stems but more recent collections from China have introduced material with a bronzy or even dark purple leaf and stem colour. In addition, the growth habit has developed from the original strongly upright form to a more delicate and open-branched plant that has an ethereal presence in the border.
