Prevalence of helminths in stray dogs from southeast Iran

Parasites werecounted from the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, heart, kidney, lung, and liver of 98 postmortemstray dogs in southeast Iran. Helminths were found in 74.5% of the dogs butonly in the GI tract. Cestodes 73.45%, nematodes 5.1%, and acanthocephala 1.02%including Taenia hydatigena (53.06%), Dipylidium caninum (36.73%), Echinococcusgranulosus (9.18%), Taenia multiceps (3.06%), Mesocestoides lineatus (2.04%),Toxocara canis (3.06%), Uncinaria stenocephala (1.02%), Physaloptera rara (1.02%),Spirocerca lupi (1.02%), and Macracanthorhynchus sp (1.02%) were counted. Sex norage were related with Infestation rates.
