We read the article by Duran et al, which evaluated the association between coronary collateral formation and serum uric acid (SUA) level in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Duran et al reported that both the presence of coronary collateral vessels (CCV) and the development of good CCV were significantly associated with low levels of SUA and suggested that high levels of SUA affect CCV development negatively in patients with ACS.1 In addition, Kasapkara et al also reported that elevated SUA level on admission is associated with poor CCV development and may be a useful biomarker for stratification of risk in patients with non-ST elevation ACS.2 Therefore, we reviewed our coronary angiographic data in Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital (KMUH) to see whether there is a similar result in the Chinese population.
