Reducing congestion from road and street works

Innovotion and implementation of technological advances in asset monitoring are synonymous with TRL's Technology Development Group who have, since the 1970s, pioneered the introduction of novel equipment for mobile surveys in the UK. This equipment and the data it generates very much supports asset managers who are charged with maintaining our infrastructure. Here we report on two recent TRL initiatives. It is estimated that congestion caused by utility and highway works costs London's economy about ￡750M per year both in lost time and the additional vehicle operating costs involved.
