Prices to keep increasing in May

By mid-April, the average market price for A3 scrap had increased by 5% in the European part of Russia and by 7% in the Ural Federal District compared to late March. A decline in scrap collection caused by the lockdown and May holidays will be contributing to stronger imbalance between supply and demand in Russia's scrap market, with steadily high competition among mills to send prices for the material up. Upon easing of the quarantine restrictions, scrap collection is expected to recover owing to deferred demand among other factors, but higher scrap needs in July amid the start of restocking for winter will intensify rivalry among steel companies again.
