Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM)

The Lightweight Multi-role Missile (LMM) is a short-range, laser-guided, command-to-line-of-sight, missile system developed by Thales on the basis of the Starstreak missile. Thales began promoting the LMM for the RAF SPEAR requirement and the Royal Navy's FAGSW(L) requirements in 2008. On 16 June 2014, Thales was awarded a contract worth ￡48 million ($81 m) from the UK Ministry of Defence for the demonstration and manufacture of LMM for the Future Anti Surface Guided Weapon (Light) requirement. Firing trials on the Agusta Westland AW159 Wildcat helicopter will begin around 2016. The In-Ser-vice Date (ISD) for FASGW is 2020, but LMM is expected to be ready at an earlier date.
