Lubricants for use with low-sulphur fuels launch at SMM

Manufacturers of marine cylinder lubricants have been busy preparing for the introduction of the 0.10% sulphur emission levels by introducing new products designed for operation on distillates after 1 January 2015, with choosing September's SMM in Hamburg to showcase them. Shell Marine Lubricants announced details of its Alexia S3 lubricant for protection when using distillates. The marine cylinder lubricant (MCL) features a low basicity number (BN) 25 and is SAE 50 weight. Shell said it has been specifically designed for use in low-speed, two-stroke diesel engines that are burning low-sulphur and distillate fuels up to 0.5% sulphur.
