A series of container vessel operated by Hanjin Shipping are to be fitted with SAMCon high-voltage onshore power connection facilities by Hamburg-based L-3 SAM Electronics. The vessels regularly call at the US ports of Long Beach and Oakland and the system will let them meet California's impending strict clean air regulations, which require alternate provision of shoreside emission-free electrical when vessels' main and auxiliary engines are disconnected.
