Mapping of Quantitative Trait Loci (Leaf Rolling) Associated with Drought Tolerance in Rice

Drought is a major constraint to rice (Oryza saliva) yield and its stability in rainfed and poorly irrigated environments. Identifying genomic regions influencing the response of yield and its components to water deficits will aid in our understandingof the genetics of drought tolerance and development of more drought tolerant cultivars. Quantitative trait loci (QTL) for leaf rolling was indemnified using double haploid (DH) population of 117 lines derived from a cross between two rice cultivars 1R64 x Azucena. The research was carried out at the Department of Biotechnology, Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur, C. G India. Two QTLs for leaf rolling were indentified. These QTLs were identified, one each on chromosome #4 and 11 between themarkers RG 788-RZ 565 and RG 1109-RZ 536, respectively. These two QTLs explained 11.3 and 14.4% of total phenotypic variation, with LOD score of 2.17 and 2.67, respectively.
