AFRICA'S UPSTREAM IS alive and well despite all the challenges facing the industry in 2020. On 20 March, TechnipFMC declared that it had been awarded a "significant" engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract by BP for work offshore Angola. It entails the development of the Platina field, in Block 18, at water depths ranging from 1,200 to 1,500 metres, with the work estimated to be worth between US$75 million and US$250 million. The contract covers the manufacture, delivery and installation of subsea equipment including subsea trees, a production manifold with associated subsea control and connection systems, as well as rigid pipelines, umbilicals and flexible jumpers.
