Novel drain fixation device to reduce the peritoneal drain-related complications after gastroenterological surgery.

Unnecessary peritoneal drainage should not be carried out after gastrointestinal surgery. However, when the drain is inserted, it is necessary to make the effort to decrease the drain trouble as much as possible. Such drains can dislodge or retract into the peritoneal cavity and lead to reoperation.We have developed a fixation device for the Duple drain (Fig. 1), which is used frequently to strengthen fixation between the suture and the drain and ensure the drain does not migrate even when the sutures loosen. For fixation, the drain is passed through the fixation device. There are four needle holes in the horizontal plate of the skin fixation device, and the skin and skin fixation plate are fixed by 2-4 stitches. There are two needle holes at an angle of 90° on the sidewall of the fixation device, and, by passing the suture through these holes, the drain is secured to the fixation device by a fixation sutures (Fig. 2). Also, there is much friction between the drain and fixation device and the skin fixation plate prevents the drain from retraction into the peritoneal cavity if the suture is broken.
