Australia advances large-scale battery storage plans

The installation of utility-scale lithium-ion battery storage projects is gathering pace in Australia, which expects to host some of the world's largest capacities. Australian utility AGL has gained approval from authorities in the state of Victoria to develop a 200MW grid-scale battery at the Loy Yang coal-fired power plant. The project is part of AGL’s plan to install 850MW of grid-scale batteries, including a 250MW battery in South Australia that is due to begin construction soon.
