We thank Barrett et al. [1] for their interest in our brief communication and the opportunity to provide further clarification regarding our use of two measures of pregnancy intention/readiness in a population of nonpregnfnt women. Certainly in an effort to be concise and disseminate important information to our colleagues in a timely manner, some details were covered briefly. As Barrett et al. [1] noted and as we noted in our brief communication [2], Barrett et al[3] used a two-stage design to develop their pregnancy intention measure in the UK. Furthermore, they validated this measure in a U.S. population and noted that the measure could be used as a tool in research studies of unintended pregnancy in the United States [4]. In our exploratory study conducted among a nonpregnant population, we modified the wording of questions used in both the Barrett and Gaydos measures to reflect current behaviors and immediate thoughts about pregnancy.
