Chemical production in the UK grew 2-4% in the second quarter of 2021, compared with the previous quarter, according to the Chemical Industry Association' s (CIA) latest economic report. UK chemical production grew 4.4% month-on-month (MOM) in April before falling back slightly to 1.0% in May, the report says. Chemical output in May was nevertheless at its highest monthly level since August 2008, excluding April 2021 and December 2020. UK chemical exports contracted 0.3% in May compared with April and 2.8% compared with March but were still 17.0% higher than the pre-pandemic monthly average in the final quarter of 2019.
