摘要

The present investigations were carried out to obtain genetic information on traits related to seed germination and vigour among different provenances of Dalbergia sissoo. Significant differences were observed among provenances for all traits except pod width, indicating the presence of significant amount of 'genetic' variation. Estimates of broad sense heritability were found over 80 per cent for all the traits except for pod width, where it is only 3.76 per cent. However, high heritability coupledwith same intensity of genetic gain was exhibited by speed of germination, germination value, number of healthy seeds per pod and 1000-seed weight. This signifies the fact that these traits have high amount of heritable additive genetic component. Therefore, these traits could be considered reliable for affecting selection and further improvement of this species. Correlation studies reveal that among different pod and seed traits, only 1000-seed weight showed highly significant positive correlation withseed germination and vigour parameters indicating that selection for increased 1000-seed weight may enhance the germination and seedling vigour.
