Expert Focus: The new Australian Industrial Chemical Introduction Scheme

From 1 July 2020, the Australian Industrial Chemical Introduction Scheme (AICIS) for the regulation of industrial chemicals will come into force. Brought into effect by a suite of six pieces of legislation, the centrepiece of these is the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019. AICIS replaces the National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (Nicnas) for the purpose of regulating the introduction – whether by manufacturing or through importation – of new industrial chemicals in Australia.
