US EPA requires industry to submit unpublished studies on 50 substances

The US EPA has issued a rule requiring manufacturers and importers of 50 substances to submit unpublished health and safety studies to the agency to support its TSCA activities. The addition of 20 high-priority chemicals and 30 organohalogen flame retardants (OFRs) to the TSCA 8(d) ‘health and safety data reporting rule’ was an expected development following the substances’ earlier listing on the agency’s priority testing list (PTL). The information call-in, however, may be just the beginning of the agency’s efforts as it continues to focus on filling data gaps to inform the prioritisation, evaluation and regulation of existing substances under TSCA.
