Washington—Demand for heavy Canadian oil from US Gulf Coast refiners will keep Kansas City Southern’s crude-by-rail business growing, despite the current low price environment, company officials said Friday. New offloading equipment being installed at terminals in the US Gulf Coast refining region will continue to allow KCS, whose crude-by-rail business primarily focuses on transporting Canadian heavy oil to the region, to expand its shipments, railroad officials said on a quarterly earnings call.
