A New Paradigm for Hill Agriculture: A Study of District Solan in Himachal Pradesh

In a developed agricultural economy particularly in hilly terrain there has been a paradigm shift in recent times. The objectives of development policies are, by and large, to achieve economic growth with "Social justice". Economic development traditionally implies higher per capita (real) income accompanied by increased production, productivity, reduction in unemployment and inequalities of income. In India, even after over 64 years of development planning and with the introduction of improved technology in agriculture and emerging non-agricultural sector, the problem of wide-spread unemployment, poverty and inequality are still the burning issues attracting the attention of the Government economists and policy makers.
