Northern appalachia Q4 coal production climbs 2.4% on quarter, falls 7.3% on year

Northern Appalachia coal production in the fourth quarter rose 2.4% from the Q3, but fell 7.3% from Q4 2018, according to US Mine Safety and Health Administration data. The region produced roughly 25.4 million st of coal in Q4, up from a three-year low 24.8 million st in Q3, but down from the 27.39 million st produced in the year-ago quarter. It was the lowest Q4 output in Northern Appalachia in more than 25 years and was also down from the five-year average of 28.45 million st.
