摘要

The European Commission has announced steps to preserve the interests of European companies investing in Iran. The Commission says that the move demonstrates the European Union's commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)—the Iran nuclear deal—following President Donald Trump's announcement last week that the United States would withdraw from the deal and reinstate US sanctions against Iran that were in force before the JCPOA's implementation. The US withdrawal "has the potential to have a negative impact on European companies that have invested in Iran in good faith since the deal was signed," the Commission says. "The European Union is committed to mitigating the impact of US sanctions on European businesses and taking steps to maintain the growth of trade and economic relations between the EU and Iran that began when sanctions were lifted."EUbased companies with interests in Iran have expressed concern about the potential impact of the reinstatement of US sanctions.
