WHERE, how, and by what pathway local anesthetics produce their effects, at least those related to inhibition of action potentials in axons, have curiously only recently become established dogma in Anesthesia. Now we are presented with data in the current issue of this journal that support a challenge to some of our longstanding assumptions about the pathways by which local anesthetics may approach their binding site.
