Olin to shut chlor-alkali unit and VDC at Freeport site

Olin will permanently shut down a chlor-alkali plant with capacity of 230,000 metric tons/year and its vinylidene chloride (VDC) production facility, both in Freeport, Texas, before the end of 2020. Olin is the largest US chlor-alkali producer and the Freeport shutdown would represent about 5% of Olin’s US capacity, according to IHS Markit estimates.
